I got up this morning and just wasn’t that excited to get on the trainer. Instead of skipping the workout, I decided to take an easy run on the dreadmill and honestly, I am glad I did. I have been having a problem of not feeling loose until after my warm-up and about 1.75 miles into my run. This morning I tried a little something different. I took my five minute warm-up and then jumped off the treadmill. I did about two minutes of Hurdlers, one of my favorite stretches. What I found is after the warm-up my hamstrings were warm, but after the Hurdlers, they were loose too. The stretch opened up my stride and felt really, really good.

The rest of the run was uneventful. I felt really strong through about 4.5 miles, and then the run started to be a little work. I am excited about that. I could have gone about 10 this morning without killing myself, and part of me wishes that I had. My schedule of course was bearing down on me so I had to quit at the 6.0 mile mark.

The great thing about the run is taking that break from the trainer made me excited to get back onto it tomorrow. I am going to ride hard tomorrow, take an active recovery day on Friday and then ride long on Saturday. Between you, me, and the fencepost, I am going to ride for 5 hours on Saturday. That should be an adventure. I rode 100 miles or more nine times last year, but the last time was in September. This should be fun…should be.
