Great little ride this morning. The legs are a little more tired than I thought they should be for this ride, but I will take it. The heart rate was about where it should be, and I felt pretty solid throughout the ride. I did lose some of my motivation during this ride — I wanted to put in a couple more accelerations, but the brain just couldn’t do it. So I settled into a nice pace and just went. Here is how it went down today:
For the rest of the week, I will be gently decreasing my volume, but keeping my intensity. I have shaved down to one workout a day, and man I swear my biggest problem right now has been making sure I keep my weight down. I am tipping the scales at 170 lbs., and I want to go into the race at that weight. I have dropped the number of calories I have been eating and every time I want to eat crap, I just remind myself how tough it was to get down to this weight and how silly it would be to jump back up. Nutrition may be the toughest part of the taper.
I have also tried to fill my time with activities around the house. A buddy of mine and I will be rerunning sprinklers to my flowerbeds. When we put the flowerbed sprinklers in when we built the house, we used funny pipe and I hate that stuff. You have to replace it about every three to four years because of the holes that it gets. So, we are putting PVC pipe into my flowerbeds and I am excited. I know, it is weird to get excited over sprinklers, but I do. I love landscaping and everything involved with it. I just wish I was a little better at it.
