I wanted to get in a good run before the 5K on Saturday. I am almost rethinking the night skiing I have planned for Friday night. I know I won’t be able to run as fast as I am capable after several hours of skiing, but this session will be with some friends who I love to ski with because they are better than I am and push me in the terrain park. So it will be tough to skip, but I think it may be for the best if I want to get mt 5K PR down. No matter what my time is Saturday, it will be a January 5K PR because I haven’t ever run an organized 5K in January. It will be cold and there may be snow on the road, but I am starting to get pumped.
Westboro Baptist Church Update
Great comments from a wide range of people. I really appreciate all of the input from everyone. I am REALLY happy to report that the Legislature of the State of Arizona has passed a law that would limit the ability of ANYONE to protest slightly before, during, and after a funeral. Is this the right solution? I don’t know. I am not sure if limiting hate speech is limiting free speech, but I am not a legal expert in free speech, so I won’t go into this further.
A friend of mine sent me a message saying they will cancel plans to protest my funeral. The sign was to read, “Why did you die Mike? Why?” I thought it was funny.
I just read the Westboro Baptist Church has decided to not protest at Christina Green’s funeral, but may at the other victims. I am sure they decided they had to bow to the immense pressure brought to bear on them by 26.2ismycooldown.com. This is just proof the system works people….
Science can be Funny
If you don’t like 5th grade humor, go ahead and skip this post. Also know that I will return to my triathlon, running, and cycling posts tomorrow. This was just too golden to pass up.
So my relationship with hard core science ended about my sophomore year in college when I decided I didn’t have the brain capacity to go to medical school. I think I am smart enough, but putting in the effort to get the grades I would have needed was just not happening. I was having WAY too much fun to think that getting anything above a B was really that important. All I needed was a 3.0 to graduate, so that was what I was going to get.
Fast forward a couple of years (alright, more than a couple) and the planet Uranus still makes me laugh. My wife and I really have a good time with it. My seven year old boy is starting to catch on, so we have curbed all Uranus jokes in front of him, but we both know when one could be used. One look between the two if us and we know. We know…
Much to my pleasant surprise, scientists are now proposing a new trip to Uranus — they are calling it a mission to probe Uranus. Really, this is too easy. For those of you who are serious about astronomy, you and read the actual article here. Here are some screen captures from the article with my inappropriate commentary…
This was the actual headline from 01.12.2011. Really. I remember making this stuff up in about the 5th grade when we were learning about astronomy. Here is another gem…
Do I really have to comment on this for you to see the hilarity? If you don’t know why this could be funny, please ask a 10 year old kid you know to read it and explain it to you…
Only scratched the surface of Uranus? You would think this was an article written in Mad Magazine or by The Onion, but no. And I did check — Dr. Chris Arridge is a real person. Now on the final piece…
See, science can be super cool too. I am hopeful that Fallon or Coco will pick up on this interview on their shows. Speaking of, I think I will go and email them about it now.
Perhaps I should keep my day job to stick to blogging about running, cycling, and triathlon.
